Healthy living and fitness

Adelaide is a city where people's health and well-being are important.
When Colonel Light designed the city in 1837, his dream was to design a city that could grow sustainably, while improving the well-being and quality of life of its inhabitants.

1. The benefits of culture:

Professor James Paulski, PhD, an international expert in culture and fitness, visited the city of Adelaide between July 24 and August 16, 2019, and reached out to a wide variety of people through various talks, meetings, workshops and public events.

Through these engagements, Professor Pileski has heard about the lives of Adelaideans through their engagements in creative activities, their engagement with the arts and culture, the pre-existing initiatives that contribute to the well-being of people through culture. Increase well-being, and strategies to improve access to these beneficial experiences benefit the city's large population. From this visit, Professor Paulsky prepared a report with four recommendations and ongoing steps to improve Adelaide through culture.

Snapshot of report recommendations
1. Promoting awareness
2. Arrive
3.Impress organizations
4.Meaning. Measure meaningful results.

The City of Adelaide is committed to maintaining a high standard of living and has invested in a number of projects, plans and programs to support health and wellness. The City of Adelaide Welfare Plan 2020-2025 outlines community outcomes and key initiatives. The Council's Strategic Plan 2020-2024 is linked to the Council's need for a Regional Public Health Plan under the South Australian Public Health Act 2011
The city of Adelaide has three major landmarks.
Children aged 18 to 24 years
The results of the survey showed that children aged 18 to 24 living in the city can take advantage of opportunities to target their health and resilience. As a result, the City of Adelaide, in partnership with strategic partners, has developed a number of programs to support this age group.
Physical activity and nutrition
Here is an important study showing the relationship between people's physical activity, nutritional intake and their personal well-being. Adelaide City has a number of initiatives to increase physical activity, including special exercise programs for the elderly, and free health trails and tracks throughout the city and in Parkland.
In addition, it offers grants and incentives to third parties eligible to provide programs. It offers community centers and libraries, numerous healthy cooking classes and special opportunities to learn about nutrition.

Meaning and purpose
Research has shown the importance of having a sense of meaning and purpose in people's overall well-being. The City of Adelaide is working with research institutes and software leaders in the area to identify opportunities for evidence-based, innovative and smart initiatives that enable residents to increase their sense of meaning and purpose.
